Puppydinosaur

Our Mission

Why We Exist

Puppydinosaur was born from a passion for uncovering the earliest chapters of dinosaur life. We believe that understanding the growth and development of these ancient reptiles—from egg to juvenile—is key to unlocking the full story of their evolution. Our project fills a critical gap in paleontological education by focusing on the often-overlooked infant stages, making complex developmental biology accessible to students and enthusiasts alike.

Our Principles

  • Rigorous scientific accuracy in all content, from bone histology to nesting behavior.
  • Educational accessibility for geology students and curious minds of all levels.
  • Celebration of the wonder and mystery of biological evolution through the Mesozoic lens.

Expected Impact

By exploring fossilized egg structures, juvenile bone density, and parental care evidence from species like Maiasaura, we aim to inspire a deeper appreciation for the complexity of prehistoric life. Our resources empower learners to connect with paleontology on a tangible level, fostering the next generation of geologists and paleobiologists. Ultimately, Puppydinosaur seeks to make the ancient world feel immediate and alive, one tiny dinosaur footprint at a time.

Our Journey

From a spark of curiosity to a comprehensive educational resource, discover the milestones that shaped Puppydinosaur.

1

The Founding Idea

In 2018, our founder, a paleontologist and educator, recognized a gap in accessible resources about dinosaur ontogeny. The concept of Puppydinosaur was born to bridge the gap between complex scientific research and public curiosity.

2

First Major Collaboration

By 2020, we partnered with the University of Montana to digitize over 500 microfossil slides of juvenile dinosaur bone tissue. This collaboration provided the foundation for our interactive anatomy modules.

3

Launch of the Maiasaura Nest Project

In 2022, we launched a dedicated section on Maiasaura nesting behavior, featuring 3D reconstructions of fossilized nests. This became our most visited resource, attracting over 50,000 students in its first year.

4

Educational Outreach Expansion

In 2023, we introduced free downloadable lesson plans for high school geology teachers. The program reached over 200 classrooms across North America, solidifying our role as a trusted educational tool.

5

Recognition and Future Vision

In 2024, Puppydinosaur received the "Digital Innovation in Paleontology" award from the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. We continue to expand our microfotography library and plan to launch a virtual lab for bone histology analysis.
